An ordinary task to provide representative parking spaces and fit substantial volume of offices in the old courtyard garages near the centre of Usti nad Labem got ultimately more interesting when the building collapsed.
We immediately started to seek for a new structure which could take better advantage of the narrow plot.
By lifting the office building off the ground on two walls and one staircase we have gained 3 extra parking lots.
The office volume then becomes a double floor gallery space wrapped in translucent glass with openings for selected views.
As a bonus, two apartments with roof terraces were added to boost our client’s hospitality to frequent visitors. The entire courtyard was tiled in stone as a medieval patio with a fast growing tree providing cooling shade .
